Privacy Policy — Wagcast

Last updated: May 6, 2026

Wagcast is a weather app for iOS. This page describes what data Wagcast collects, what it does with that data, and what it doesn’t do.

The short version: Wagcast asks for your location to fetch the weather where you are. That’s it. No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no data sold to anyone.

What Wagcast collects

Coarse location

When you grant location permission, iOS gives Wagcast your approximate position. Wagcast intentionally requests low-precision location (kCLLocationAccuracyKilometer — accurate to roughly a kilometer, not a precise GPS pin) because that’s the resolution local weather actually needs. Wagcast sends that latitude and longitude to weather data providers as a query parameter so they can return the forecast, radar tiles, and active alerts for your area.

The providers Wagcast contacts:

These providers’ privacy policies govern what they do with the lat/lon they receive. To Wagcast’s knowledge none of them retain location data linked to user identity, but you should consult each provider’s policy directly if you want their full terms.

Wagcast itself does not store, log, share, or sell your location. The lat/lon is held in memory long enough to make the weather request and is then discarded.

Selected breed and app preferences

Wagcast saves your selected dog breed, units (°F / °C), tone setting, and other UI preferences locally on your device using standard iOS user defaults. This data is also shared with the Wagcast widget (also on your device) via an App Group container. None of it leaves your device.

What Wagcast does not collect

Live Activities and Push Notifications

Wagcast can spawn a Live Activity on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island when the National Weather Service issues a Severe or Extreme weather alert for your current location. These Live Activities are generated entirely on-device using ActivityKit. Wagcast does not use remote push notifications and does not register for an APNs token.

You can disable Live Activities at any time from Settings → Alerts → “Severe weather alerts on Lock Screen.”

Children’s privacy

Wagcast is rated 4+ and contains no objectionable content, but it is also not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13 (it doesn’t knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, but the COPPA disclaimer is required for completeness).

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date at the top of the page will reflect the change. Material changes (e.g., adding analytics, adding a third-party data provider, adding ad networks) will be called out in the app’s release notes.
